Meet the Firms Fall 2008

Meet the Firms will be held on Thursday September 18, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Estes Atrium of McClelland Hall.  All accounting students should plan to attend this event.

BIG FOUR:  These are the largest public accounting firms. They hire in all major cities throughout the US. Most offer externships (these are unpaid 1 to 4 day engagements which are normally held over the summer). Most students seek out externships during the summer of their junior year (you may take externship offers from several different firms). Most of the Big Four firms offer internships as well (internships are paid 8 week engagements held over the summer). Most students seek out internships during the summer of their senior year. Many internships result in a full-time offer at the end of the summer (e.g., summer 2009) with a start date for the following fall (e.g., fall 2010). The student often returns to UA to complete a Master of Accounting before starting full-time employment.

SECOND TIER NATIONAL FIRMS:  Clifton Gunderson is the only Second Tier National Firm that hires in Tucson. All five of the firms listed below hire for Phoenix as well as other locations throughout the US. All of these Second Tier firms offer employment opportunities similar to the Big Four.

ARIZONA/TUCSON PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRMS:  Heinfeld & Meech offers employment opportunities in Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Tucson. This firm is a specialty shop that audits government and not-for-profit entities.

TUCSON LOCAL PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRMS:  All of the 3 firms in this category hire in Tucson only. They all offer more traditional accounting services (i.e., a mix of tax, audit, and consulting).

PHOENIX LOCAL PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRM:  Edwards, Largay, Mihaylo & Co., PLC is a local public accounting firm that hires for Phoenix only. It offers traditional accounting services but focuses mostly in tax.

HOLLYWOOD LOCAL PUBLIC ACCOUNT FIRM:  NSBN is a local firm that offers traditional accounting services (i.e., a mix of tax, audit, and consulting). It hires for Beverly Hills and LA.

INDUSTRY:  These are all companies that have individual hiring needs. Honeywell hires for Phoenix and may require relocation for advancement. Tucson Electric Power hires for Tucson. Sempra is looking to hire for San Diego & Los Angeles.

GOVERNMENT:  Auditor General is a State of Arizona employer. It hires for Tucson and Phoenix and audits State agencies. The US Army Audit Office has postions in various US locations.
